Aged care on the Peninsula: a local picture
The Mornington Peninsula is home to a significant and growing population of older Australians. The area's beauty, lifestyle and strong community make it a wonderful place to age — but geography, transport limitations, and the Peninsula's dispersed layout create real challenges in accessing consistent, high-quality support.
In-home care options
The most common form of aged care support on the Peninsula is delivered in-home — support workers coming to your loved one where they live. This includes personal care, domestic assistance, social support, nursing visits, allied health (OT, physio, podiatry) and transport to appointments. In-home care allows people to remain in their own home for much longer, which is almost universally what older people want.
Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)
Entry-level support for older Australians who need a small amount of help. Good for one or two services — a cleaner, meals delivered, or transport assistance. Access through My Aged Care on 1800 200 422.
Support at Home (previously Home Care Packages)
For people with more complex needs requiring coordinated support across multiple areas. Funded through the Support at Home program from July 2025. Assessment required through My Aged Care.
Community services and social connection
Neighbourhood Houses, U3A groups, Men's Sheds, RSL clubs and local community centres across the Peninsula provide vital social connection for older residents. Social isolation is one of the biggest risk factors for cognitive decline and poor health outcomes in older people. Making sure your loved one stays connected is as important as physical care.
